Connie Munroe Kraus

I grew up in Southern California, spending my summers in the ocean and on the sand. My interest in biology and athletics led to my pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and then to a bachelor’s in physical therapy.  My art practice began as an extension of my work as a physical therapist.  I needed something to balance my work, and figure drawing was a natural fit.  Having studied and worked with the human body for years I was inspired by its beauty, strength, movement and resilience.  In 1989, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where I lived for six years, I began life drawing.  I continued to study in Boston area art schools and with private instruction both in the East and in California.  My art and studies have included printmaking, plein air painting, still life, and abstract painting, yet my constant is the figure. I have had work selected for group shows throughout Southern California and the Bay area.  My paintings are also in private collections in Germany, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Maryland, Colorado, Hawaii and California.
